Hydrogen Project ECHO-WAVE Receives National Funding

The Luxembourg Ministry of the Economy (MECO) has announced that the ECHO-WAVE project is one of the two winners of the national pilot call for renewable hydrogen production in Luxembourg.

This marks a significant milestone for GPSS on the path toward establishing the country’s first hydrogen production facility. After more than three years of work – including the selection of a suitable site and the completion of a detailed feasibility study – ECHO-WAVE succeeded in meeting all the requirements of this year’s call. This included, in particular, demonstrating the innovative nature of the project.

The hydrogen will be produced via electrolysis powered by directly connected renewable energy sources, specifically wind energy and agri-PV. With a rated electrolyzer capacity of 2.5 MW, the setup significantly reduces the load on the public electricity grid and ensures the production of truly green hydrogen.

Thanks to national support, the project will receive financial assistance over a period of 10 years. This support helps to bridge the current gap between production costs and the market price of renewable hydrogen, laying the groundwork for the development of hydrogen infrastructure in Luxembourg.

The facility will be operated by the project’s subsidiary, H2 Energiewiss Kielen S.à r.l.
